BNP Paribas Open Awarded Tournament of the Year by ATP World Tour and WTA
The BNP Paribas Open has been consistently voted both the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Tournament of the Year and the WTA Premier Mandatory Tournament of the Year. Both awards are determined by player vote.
The BNP Paribas Open’s innovative agenda was first perceived by current CEO Raymond Moore and his original partner Charlie Pasarell, who were both accomplished tennis players. When current owner Larry Ellison purchased the event in 2009, his first major investment was to install Hawk-Eye on all match courts. The BNP Paribas Open is the only tournament in the world to have Hawk-Eye on all match courts for both main draw and qualifying matches.
An ambitious expansion project began immediately following the 2013 tournament. It included building an 8,000-seat Stadium 2, which features three permanent restaurants, including world-renowned Nobu. In a stunning 10 months and 10 days the project was completed and was christened on March 1, 2014, with the first annual McEnroe Challenge for Charity. The facility also remains extremely fan-friendly, offering unsurpassed player access and free Wi-Fi throughout the grounds, which allows fans to use the tournament app to stay up to date on all the action, including the ability to stream live action from the four main Stadium courts.
“It is very rewarding for the BNP Paribas Open to be recognized by the players on both men’s and women’s Tours for the second consecutive year,” said Chief Executive Officer Raymond Moore. “Our event is focused on improving each and every year in all areas and aspects, and receiving this award for the second year in a row is another validation that our actions are being appreciated by the players. It only intensifies our desire to reach new heights in 2016 and ensure that the experience at the tournament is nothing short of exceptional.”
BNP Paribas Open Schedule
For four decades, the BNP Paribas Open has been one of the major staples of the tennis circuit, bringing together some of the best men's and women's tennis players in the world and giving fans some serious thrills that tend to have fans gripping the edges of their seats throughout the various matches. Played in Indian Wells, California, just a stone's throw from Palm Desert, this is a great event that has been drawing in fans from all over for quite a while, and you'll see why that is if you head out to join in the excitement this spring. Come out and see all of the monster serves, spectacular return shots and killer drop-shots that have become standard operating procedure over the years as this incredible tournament.
In 2014, it was Novak Djokovic who ran the table for the men's side to win the singles, with Flavia Pennetta dominating for the winning and walking away with the single portion for the women. This time around, it's impossible to say who's going to win but you can bank on there being a field comprised of some of the very best players in the world, delivering some amazing moments that you'll definitely be glad to be a part of. Once you're there in the middle of an incredible matchup loaded with twists, turns and nail-biting moments, the pro tennis experience will completely speak for itself.

BNP Paribas Open History
The BNP Paribas Open, also known as the Indian Wells Masters, was first played back in 1974 and has since grown into one of the elite tennis tournaments in the entire world. The men's portion of the tournament has gone under several names during the course of its existence including American Airlines Tennis Games, the Congoleum Classic, the Grand Marnier/ATP Tennis Games, the Pilot Pen Classic, the Newsweek Champions Cup, the Tennis Masters Series Indian Wells, and the Pacific Life Open before switching to its current name. The women's side of the tournament has also undergone several name changes before settling on the BNP Paribas Open including the Virginia Slims of Indian Wells, the Virginia Slims of Palm Springs, the Matrix Essentials Evert Cup, the Evert Cup or the State Farm Evert Cup as a tribute to Chris Evert, the Tennis Masters Series, and the Pacific Life Open. But even though the name has changed a few times, the intensity and talent level remains the same, helping to create plenty of fanfare whenever this one gets underway in Indian Wells, California.
